The stunning water views are a definite highlight, making every meal a scenic adventure. Patrons adore the great coffee and tea selections, particularly the praised lattes that many declare the best they've had in a long time. The well-presented, fresh food garners frequent compliments, especially the vegetarian options, such as the halloumi salad and vegetarian breakfast. Friendly, attentive staff amplify the enjoyable dining experience, making visitors feel welcomed and valued. The outdoor seating on the decking allows diners to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, adding to the ambiance.

Most Disliked

As a popular spot, The Guard Room sometimes struggles with parking availability, which can frustrate those arriving during busy hours. While the café maintains a cozy atmosphere, some may find it a bit crowded, particularly during peak times when the vibrant crowd of locals and tourists converge. There are mixed reviews regarding the speed of service during busy hours; some patrons appreciate the attentive staff while others feel a bit rushed. The limited space might not be ideal for large groups without prior arrangements, which could affect large family outings.

We are moving into the area and was recommended to try this hidden gem. If you're not told or know about The Guard Room, you are very unlikely to come across it. It sits on the mouth between the river plym and Hooe estuary, and the view out of the wall to wall windows never mind outside on the decking is one of those moments you relish and totally enjoy. We'll we were not disappointed. The staff were very polite and professional, always helpful and gracious. The food was well presented and fulfilling and very good produce. It was a joy to sit and eat, taking in the views. I can't wait to visit this place in the spring/ summer and enjoy the view and atmosphere outside on the decking, and may I say the best latte I have had in a very long time. Parking can be a problem as it is a popular place and parking is at a minimal but there is extra parking entering via turnchaple and parking in the car park at the very bottom and walking through the gates to gain access to The Guard Room. Thank you so much to the staff. we felt so welcomed and looking forward to a future visit, even if it is just for a coffee .

A really lovely, completely wheelchair accessible place to eat with a great view. The staff are so kind and make you feel very welcome. I've been multiple times , my favourites being the crew burger, halloumi salad and the bacon, brie and cranberry panini. I definitely recommend the chai lattes!
